Inspired by the geometric structure of natural images, a novel geometric directional distortion is proposed for full reference image quality assessment. The proposed method has clear physical meaning and relatively low computational complexity. The experimental results on an image database showed that the performance of the method is very competitive with current image quality assessment algorithms, and is also consistent with the subjective assessment of human beings.
