The high level of engineering and innovation in high tech field by engineers and technologists in Australia is recognised globally. Much of the innovation is embraced the IEEE societies, and that has stimulated interest and IEEE activities for some time. Australian engineers do have a national representative body, known as 'Engineers Australia'. While they do maintain related electrical and ITEE societies, they are not as large as their civil and mechanical engineering counterparts. Engineers Australia performs the Australian University Engineering course accreditations, and will validate recognised degrees from foreign universities, and is one of the agencies that can accredit CPEng1 (PE) at national level. IEEE compliments the role of Engineers Australia, especially with information distribution, activities, joint event coordination, international perspectives and of course meeting academic deliverables in publishing papers. Throughout this history presentation, a number of individuals whose vision and effort shine through, and while many have now passed-on, the ongoing recognition of their contributions continues.
