Window functions have played a vital role in digital signal processing and found extensive applications in signal analysis and estimation. The definition of the modified Bartlett-Hanning (MBH) window is extended to the form:ω(t,α)=α-(4α-2)|t|+(1-α)cos2πt;|t| ⩽0.5, 0.5⩽α<1.88 and its spectral behavior is investigated. It is found that with the parameter, α, adjusted to different values, this window family can attain a minimum mainlobe width of 1.08, a maximum sidelobe level of -36.89 dB and a maximum first sidelobe level of -53.59 dB. The extended MBH window family is also analyzed for other useful parameters. The property of steerable dip in the sidelobe structures is also demonstrated
