This paper reports on the effective degree of freedom (EDOF) and channel capacity of a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communication system employing a uniform linear array (ULA) at transmitter and a uniform linear array (ULA) or uniform circular array (UCA) antenna at receiver. In the undertaken investigations, the receiver is postulated to be free from any obstacles while the transmitter is surrounded by scattering objects. Assuming a Laplacian distribution of angle of arrival (AOA) of signal at the receiver, spatial correlation for both the ULA and UCA cases is determined. The results for EDOF and capacity are presented for a 4times4 MIMO system.
