Traffic modeling contributes remarkably to network design and performance evaluation in wireless networks. Various traffic models have been proposed for wireless networks thus far.. In order to provide a better understanding in this area, the article presents a detailed investigation to current studies of traffic models in different wireless networks. And then the origins of model differences are analyzed. Finally, some open research issues are pointed out and possible improvement hints are proposed.
