This investigation presents a numerical model and air bearing simulations of a femto-type slider flying over bit patterned media. It analyzes the characteristics of the air bearing pressure profile and the air bearing pressure gradient over the bit patterned area. The effect of the dimensions of the bit pattern on the flying characteristics of a typical femto-type slider is studied.
