We propose a transport protocol that reduces the energy consumption and maintains the real time and high reliability of the actor in real time and reliable transport ((RT)2) by reducing redundant transmissions in wireless sensor and actor networks (WSANs). In our proposed scheme, sensor nodes estimate the packet arrival delay to the actor by using the one hop delay obtained from the past transmissions and the number of the hops. If the estimated packet arrival delay excesses the remaining time of the time limit, sensor node does not generate the packet at the time to avoid the redundant transmissions of the packets that can not arrive at the actor in the time limit. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the number of the time-out packets and the energy consumption, while maintaining the real time and equal reliability of the actor in (RT)2.
