A method for measuring user-induced load on a triple-band GSM PIFA antenna is presented. The capacitance, total efficiency and matching of the antenna were measured in terms of the increased load of a phantom hand. Up to 10% tuning of the centre frequency occurred, with from 52 to 15% decreased total efficiency owing to the undesired hand grip. The comparable capacitance increased proportionally from 3.83 to 4.45 pF, allowing evaluation of the magnitude of the load.
