The paper summarizes the requirements necessary for the management of multimedia objects. It also analyzes the issues related to these requirements and proposes solutions that permit a high degree of media integration in a data model. The authors show how some of the requirements can be implemented using concepts from the object oriented paradigm and database systems. A brief description of the storage model MEDIAFILE is given. Finally, the authors illustrate the proposed solutions by describing the multimedia database servers architecture
