Single sideband, wideband f.m. and pulse-code methods are considered. Pulse code system is shown to have advantages since it more nearly approaches the ideal expressed by the Hartley-Shannon law. Expected signal/noise ratio values in a practical multi-channel (600 channel) satellite relay system are discussed.
