Optimisation problems of processes controlled by parameters are often met in the study of chemical-reaction kinetics. The problem of optimal-parameters selection for a process described by ordinary differential equations is reduced to a parameter-identification problem. This problem is in turn reduced to an initial-value problem by the continuation method. An example demonstrates the approach.
