Roof collapse is one of the most serious catastrophic disasters which take place in the coal mine. This paper first analyses the status in the technology that the surveillance monitoring of the coal mine terrane disaster at home and abroad and points out the problem existed. It proposes make use of the video image processing technology for coal mine terrane surveillance monitoring firstly, then, it designs a structural model which is based on the surveillance monitoring system in coal mine terrane of the video image processing technology, also it monitors the image of the coal mine terrane cracks by the technique of image segmentation, so it is contributory to measure the size of the terrane cracks.
