This paper addresses the problem of monitoring of fiber nonlinearities in WDM based passive optical networks. This technique is based on positioning and characterizing a probe channel which is further analyzed. This analysis leads to an estimation of the nonlinear distortion in the system which in turns could be used for instance to optimize the system performance. This technique is validated through simulation results.
