For short distance multimode data link systems, the large area surface emitting InGaAs QW laser with spectral width of up to 1 nm has been shown to operate in multimode links with RIN less than -120 dB/Hz. SELs have been specifically designed for this application. Modal properties, modal stabilities, efficiencies, reliability and details of the bottom emitting 980 nm SEL design will be discussed in this talk
