The real-time operating systems (RTOS) performance plays a significant role on the overall performance of embedded systems. In recent years, many industry vendors have been developing proprietary RTOS for improving the embedded systempsilas performance. The requirements of RTOS vary from one system to another based on the target platform and complexity of the end applications. However, a well developed RTOS should be optimum for wide rage of platforms and applications. This paper introduces the architecture, design philosophy of Samsung's proprietary RTOS (LEO), which can be used across multiple architectures including ARM and CalmRISC. The components of the LEO have been optimized by using code compaction and code changing position mechanisms. The LEO has shown an excellent performance results with respect to Interrupt latency, context switching latency, inter-task communication latency and memory footprint performance, as compared to NORTi (ITRON).
