DEC1, also known as SHARP-2 or Stral3, is an important molecule in embryonic differentiation and a bHLH type transcriptional regulator. It has recently been identified to be abundantly expressed in several human tumors and might play an important role in tumor development. But its expression in gastric carcinoma is unknown. In this study we show that DEC1 was frequently expressed in six gastric carcinoma cell lines with different background and tumor tissues from patients with gastric carcinoma. A significant association of DEC1 expression with STAT3 expression was also proved. These findings suggest that DEC1 is strongly related with gastric carcinoma; it might play its role in tumor development through STAT3-signaling pathway.
