Two aspects of the photothermal beam deflection experiment, which are essential for a quantitative interpretation and for an improved performance of the experiment are studied here: The alignment of the probe laser beam with respect to the pump beam and to the solid surface under investigation and, second, the smoothing of experimental data by convolution filtering.
