The possibility of obtaining appreciable injection luminescence from a germanium device was investigated experimentally. In a p‐n‐p structure electrons tunnel and holes are injected into the n base region; a weak optical line was observed at 300°, 77°, and 4°K arising from indirect band gap transitions and no evidence of direct transitions was seen.
