An experimental method based on the measurement of laser energy output from three flat‐flat resonators with different outcoupling fractions is used to determine the gain medium parameters for an electron‐beam pumped XeF laser. The sensitivity of the procedure to experimental errors is discussed. The resulting gain parameters are used to predict the laser output from an unstable resonator on the same laser and the results compared with experimental values.
