Applicability of high T/sub c/ superconducting bulk to superconducting fault current limiting device

We have investigated normal resistivity, critical current and flux creep properties of high J/sub c/ Bi2223 and YBCO superconducting bulks. Based on their experimental results, applicability of the bulk to the superconducting fault current limiting device is discussed. As a result, it was found that Bi2223 bulk has a high resistivity and YBCO has high critical current density. Flux creep characteristics for the Bi2223 suggest that practical stable operation can be achieved to decrease the transport current to 70% of the critical current.
