We have evaluated the resolution and sensitivity of a Pr3+ infrared quantum counter near 4.5 μm under the conditions required for operation as an imaging detector. Our measurements indicate center‐to‐center spacing of resolution cells in the crystal to be (conservatively) 75 μm. Further, fluorescence collected from a 75‐μm‐diam cell on the crystal yields a detectivity value comparable to that obtained with an earlier nonimaging system.
