The Helfrich theory of conduction‐induced alignment in nematic liquid crystals is extended to describe the dependence of alignment upon voltage above threshold. Alignment angle, saturation alignment, flow velocity, and shear are computed. Experimental measurements of these parameters for p‐azoxyanisole are in good agreement with the predictions of the theory.
