Theoretical and experimental investigation determines ultrahigh-speed cross-correlation detection characteristics of a phase lock loop based on four-wave-mixing in a traveling-wave laser diode optical amplifier from 100 Gb/s to 1 Tb/s. A long cavity laser diode amplifier and a super-continuum clock pulse are used for the ultrahigh-speed cross-correlation detection. Successful prescaled 6.3-GHz clock recovery from a 400-Gb/s optical time division multiplexed signal is also presented using a cross-correlation between the 400 Gb/s optical signal and a 6.3 GHz, 1 ps, optical super-continuum clock pulse train.
