In this paper a new system for distance measurement is proposed. Both optical and acoustical sensors have been adopted. Fuzzy data fusion methodologies, adopted to perform high quality measurements from the multiple sensor estimations, are described. The experimental set-up and the metrological characterization of the measuring system are also reported
