The effect of second phase gadolinium and yttrium additions on the microstructure and the bulk pinning force are reported for PIT Nb3Sn mono-wires. High resolution SEM of the grain morphology show smaller grain size for mono-wires with the second phase additions after 750degC and 850degC heat treatment compared to control samples. The bulk pinning force properties are determined from magnetization measurements at 9 K which allow the whole pinning force curve to be seen.
