Electromechanical parts, such as microspeakers and vibration motors, are essential components for mobile phones in order to come up with advance in the communication industry. The size reduction of mobile phones still remains the most prominent trend in the marketplace and demands a continual effort for the size reduction of components. The most realistic approach for the reduction of size is accompanied by integrating at least two parts within a structure. In this article, design of an integrated microspeaker and vibration motor is introduced and compared with the conventional type. For sound pressure level analysis of the microspeaker, electromagnetic, mechanical, acoustical, and their coupling effects is considered for the analysis. For the vibration analysis, structural and output torque analysis is also followed to predict vibration quantity. Results show that the proposed design shows better performance compared to the conventional type. © 2003 American Institute of Physics.
