The change in the read/write properties of double-layered perpendicular recording media with uniaxial anisotropy in the soft layer was investigated by micromagnetic simulation. It was found from the result of calculation that the media signal-to-noise ratio decreases by the soft layers, however, it can be improved by giving larger anisotropy to the soft layer. © 2003 American Institute of Physics.
