A high-speed silicon modulator based on an embedded-ring-resonator structure

An embedded-ring-based modulator is proposed for 40-Gb/s signal generation, with compact chip-size and enhanced tolerance to cavity loss and fabrication-induced coupling variation. The modulated signal with negative chirp exhibits penalty-free transmission of 6.5 km, with a drive voltage lower by 40%.
