We discuss the spin reversal in magnets with random anisotropy in the presence of the dipolar interaction. Past work by different groups is recapitulated. We point out the deficiencies of these works and propose a model to tie these ideas together that provides for an internally consistent framework to describe nanocomposite magnets where both the dipolar interaction and the random anisotropy cannot be ignored. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.
