A comparison is made between the use of single and multimode optical fibers in a homodyne quasi‐elastic light scattering experiment using simple optical hardware. The single‐mode fiber is used without a spatial filter and gives a larger signal‐to‐noise ratio and counting rate than a multimode fiber with a spatial filter.
