Grids offer a uniform interface to a distributed collection of heterogeneous computational and storage network resources. The semantic Grid is an extension of the Grid in which rich resource metadata is exposed and handled explicitly. This semantic infrastructure potentially leads to increased interoperability and greater flexibility and enables software agents to automatically process and manage Grid resources. Taking advantage of the Semantic Grid vision, we present an ontology-based multi-agent system that functions as an adaptable Grid execution environment. Ontologies are the backbone technology of our approach since they enable the interoperability between the remaining components. Our contribution is an overall solution based on a fully-fledged architecture that serves as meeting point for both resource consumers and providers.
