The behavior of gas phase and electron‐stimulated‐desorption ions in the modulated‐ion‐current pressure gauge is described. In order to obtain optimum separation of the two ion peaks, electron energy, shield grid potential, emission current, and various shapes of electron reflectors were examined. In addition, observations were made in the residual gas at 10-11 to 10-10 Torr.
