The stator radial vibration caused by the radial force is the main origin of vibration and acoustic noise in switched reluctance motors. Obtaining non-linear relations of the radial force with the phase current and the rotor position and the radial force waveforms are very important for the nonlinear vibration study. In this paper, non-linear static radial forces at different rotor positions and different phase current excitations are obtained by using the finite element calculation. Then a non-linear radial force simulation model of the switched reluctance motor is constructed based on finite element model under Matlab/Simulink environment. In the end, a simulation experiment is taken for an 8/6 poles switched reluctance motor under chopped current control (CCC) at low speed. Simulation results can reflect the actual running status of switched reluctance motors, which proves the radial force by the finite element calculation available and the simulation model reasonable. The results will be intended to a basis for developing a novel control strategy in order to reduce effectively vibration and acoustic noise of switched reluctance motors.
