The paper presents a numerical procedure for simulating the current redistribution process in flat multistrand Rutherford-type cables used for particle accelerator magnets. The analysis was performed considering a critical current nonuniform distribution of one of the strands in the cable along the magnet's longitudinal axis. The results imply that a higher interstrand conductance, although it is not favorable in terms of AC-loss, facilitates the current redistribution between strands and enhances the cable stability
