Summary form only given: This paper will present potential future scenarios for a distribution grid with high penetration of distributed energy resources (DER) and demand response (DR), while discussing potential technical and operational challenges, and possible solutions. It will then provide a comprehensive technology blueprint for a large scale implementation of DR spanning from ISO markets to home are networks (HAN) while covering all impacted utility information systems and business functions. Interfaces and impacts on the existing systems will be highlighted while presenting a straw-man architecture for the end-to-end solution. The DR capabilities of post-AMI and smart grid will be contrasted against the traditional load management functions while identifying enhanced capabilities and improved business practices. A roadmap for implementation of broad-base DR/DER capabilities will be presented.
