The MAC protocols by using multi-antennas technology have been studied for a long time. However, we have not seen any summary work on comparison and analysis for these kinds of MAC protocols. Therefore, we categorize the various MAC protocols using multi-antennas technology including directional antenna and MIMO. Their principles, main properties and performance are introduced. The existent problems or key technologies are presented when they are applied to ad hoc network. At last, we conclude that directional antenna and MIMO have their respective advantages for different aim environments.
