In this paper, we study the performance of the call admission control for a CDMA based cellular system. We describe the soft handoff procedure and the cellular geometry in CDMA system under certain assumptions and present analytical model for this scheme based on continuous time Markov chain. We obtain the close form solution for the performance indices, such as blocking probability and handoff dropping probability. In order to reduce the huge computational overhead of the original solution, we derive four methods to compute the performance metrics of interest, and provide extensive analysis on the computational complexity which indicates that the fourth method with two correlated recursions yields the lowest computational overhead.
