A Performance Study of Parameter Estimation Schemes for Systems with Unknown Dead Time

The method of over-parameterisation, which has been increasingly used in parameter estimation schemes for processes with unknown or varying dead time, is studied by means of simulation. It is found that the performance of such schemes is extremely sensitive to the presence of noise and step disturbance in load.
