Control strategies developed for permanent magnet synchronous motor do not explicitly consider the dynamics of the system. Considering a dynamic model of the PM machine allows powerful control-theoretic techniques, such as, linearisation to be applied to the system. Existing feedback linearisation techniques suffer from the limitations of singularity. In this paper, a new concept of generalized quadratic linearisation is introduced and solved for a class of 3-dimensional systems. The technique is then applied to linearize the PM machine model. The proposed technique does not introduce singularities in the system. A Matlab simulation of the dynamic system involved allows the verification of the proposed technique. A Simulink model is also developed for the IPM motor.
