The paper presents the specifications of a communication processing service subsystem (CPSS) that provides information retrieval and delivery services. The system structure of this CPSS is presented and its main functional blocks are described. The network interfaces of the CPSS are also specified, namely the PSTN interface for users and the packet switched data network (PSDN) interface for information providers (IP). These network interfaces are designed to have a modular structure that can be upgraded easily for users at integrated services digital network (ISDN) and IPs, in frame relay. The services that can be provided by this system are discussed, namely information retrieval services, multicasting services, clipping services, media conversion services, and interactive data communication services. In the paper, the configuration and operation of software for these services are described. The advantages and effects that can be acquired from this system are also presented
