A concatenating space-time block code (STBC) with trellis coded modulation (TCM) system over fading channels in the absence of channel state information (CSI) is proposed. Analytical expressions for the error event probability are derived based on which certain corresponding designing rules are proposed. Analytical results demonstrate that the achievable temporal diversity for such a system is half of the achievable temporal diversity for CSI aware system. Moreover, simulation results show that the performance of the proposed system with no CSI at the receiver is at least 3 dB worse than the system in which CSI is known to the receiver.
