We have developed a compact volume holographic memory system for use in avionics and other applications using a design that incorporates a pair of acoustooptic devices in a spatio-angularly multiplexed design to achieve high data storage capacity and rapid random access to stored data. We describe in detail the design and operation of our compact holographic memory demonstrator and the fixing of holographic gratings in SBN
