Acceptable limits of the gamma of TV pictures on the thin film transistor type of liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCDs) were found to be 0.9 and 1.4 by subjective evaluation using five ITEJ (the Institute of Television Engineers of Japan) standard test charts. A gamma of 1.13 gave the highest evaluation. The range and optimum value of the gamma are similar to those obtained on a previous study using a CRT monitor display
