The clustering algorithm for wireless sensor networks (WSN) is studied in this paper. The improved mixed clustering algorithm is proposed on the basis of mixed clustering algorithm. The mixed clustering algorithm is highly limited by the cluster radius in some condition. It will take obvious effect when the cluster radius is above definite value. The improved mixed clustering algorithm is designed to expand the application range of the mixed clustering algorithm. It is proved that the improved mixed clustering algorithm can effectively reduce the energy consumption of the network after simulation which will open up the scope of applying wireless sensor networks (WSN).
