Recently power-aware routing algorithms for wireless ad hoc networks have drawn more and more attention. In this paper, we are focused on the routing algorithms aimed at maximizing networks lifetime. We provide a new maximum-lifetime routing algorithm DNLBR, whose routing procedure is directly based on the node lifetime, and we give a formal proof for its correctness. Moreover, by integrating power control technology, DNLBR effectively reduces the energy consumption in transmitting packets. We conduct extensive simulations to study the performance of our protocol compared to existing protocols which simply use node residual energy as their cost metric, and the results show that our algorithm is better at extending network lifetime.
