Presents a multi-point communication system in which a super high definition (SHD) image server and image database are installed in a broad-band network. This system allows display of SHD motion or still images, storage of 256 SHD images on local RAM, sharing SHD images with different points linked via FDDI or ATM-LAN networks, and retrieval of SHD images from the database (DB) via networks. SHD image digitizing devices are also implemented in the system. This system will be available for several applications such as remote diagnosis, telepathology, clinical lectures, remote editing and printing, plant surveillance, CSCW (computer supported cooperative work) for designing, remote education, electronic museums, and electronic catalogues
