It has been demonstrated that a low-complexity first-order 2D IIR beam digital filter can be used to implement a digital beamformer for UWB signals. Simulation results generated from an FDTD channel simulator demonstrate the multipath and interference suppression capabilities of the beamformer in a multi-user environment. An important application of the filter would be the suppression of multi-user and multipath interference in a UWB communication system. This highly directional filter enables interference to be suppressed, which is expected to significantly improve the capacity of UWB communications systems.
