In ad hoc networks, the end-to-end delay of a packet will become very great if the packet was forward by many middle nodes, which has a great influence to the QoS of multi-media traffic. We improve the 802.11e EDCF mechanism by introduce the hops of a packet into EDCF as a parameter based on the multi-hop characteristic of Ad Hoc networks with cross-layer method. The result of our simulations show that, compared with EDCF, the improved mechanism which we named MHF-EDCF can reduces the end-to-end delay of multimedia traffic significantly.
