Xiangjiaba - Shanghai plusmn800 kV DC Transmission Project is an integral part of the Jinshajiang River Hydroelectric power transmission project. The UHVDC transmission will be mainly used to transmit the bulk power generated by this project to the Shanghai area in East China. The 6400 MW rated power will be transmitted to a distance of 2000 km on one single bipolar DC line plusmn800 kV. This project is ever biggest both on capacity and voltage. The reliability of the power transmission is crucial. Requirement to control system is extremely high. Vast of study on control system has been done, new structure and hardware as well as software under researching. New computer knowledge is decided to be introduced to such a huge UHVDC link. New computer knowledge introduced in this project include following: Using Intel Coretrade 2 Duo CPUs, High DSP boards, Improved control LAN, Improved I/O system, Enhanced HMI. The paper describes the reason of the improvement base on the Three Gorges system, the consideration of computer design for control of UHVDC project, which is vitally important for the huge capacity of HVDC scheme in china and in the word.
