Aiming at improving the reusability of existing experience and knowledge in product design, general design theory and key techniques such as knowledge representation and knowledge reasoning in knowledge engineering domain are investigated. Adopting object-oriented design model to represent design knowledge and case-based design method to make knowledge reasoning, product design method based on knowledge engineering is proposed. Finally the architecture of digital design system is built, and crane intelligent design system is developed based on the architecture, which can realize crane design of specific parameters for customization. The application examples verify feasibility and effectiveness of the technique.
